FAQ

FAQ

What is USB4 (USB 4.0)?

USB4, sometimes referred to as USB 4.0, is the latest generation of Universal Serial Bus (USB) technology. It’s designed to be faster, more versatile, and compatible with previous USB standards.

What is the difference between USB3 and USB4?

USB4 delivers much higher data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, surpassing the capabilities of USB 3. The quickest USB 3 iteration, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, attains a maximum speed of 20 Gbps.

What’s the difference between USB4, Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4?

USB4, Thunderbolt™ 3 and Thunderbolt™ 4 are all based on the USB Type-C connector, which is a reversible, high-speed USB connection that supports Power Delivery and DisplayPort.

The main difference is that Thunderbolt™ 4 always operates at 40 Gbps (Gigabits per second), whereas Thunderbolt™ 3 and USB4 can either work at 40 Gbps or a minimum of 20 Gbps.

Is USB4 compatible with Thunderbolt 4?

USB4 is compatible with both Thunderbolt™ 4 and Thunderbolt™ 3. This means that any Thunderbolt™ 4 or Thunderbolt™ 3 cable will work on a USB4 port. Additionally, USB4 supports the DisplayPort 2.1 protocol for external displays up to 8K at 60Hz.

Is Nitro Portable SSD compatible with USB3 and USB2 ports?

Nitro Portable SSD is compatible with USB3 ports. However, due to performance and power limitations, USB 2.0 is not compatible with Nitro Portable SSD.

What are the main difference between Nitro, Explorer and Gecko Portable SSDs?

The key differences between these portable SSDs are as follows:

1. Interface and data transfer speed
Nitro Portable SSD: Utilizes the latest USB4 interface, supporting data transfer rates up to 40 Gbps.
Explorer and Gecko Portable SSDs: Feature the USB3 interface, with data transfer rates up to 20 Gbps.

2. Weight
Nitro Portable SSD: Weighs 175g, making it the lightest of the three.
Explorer Portable SSD: Weighs 201g with its rubber case.
Gecko Portable SSD: Weighs 199g with its rubber case.

3. Design features
Nitro Portable SSD: Includes two metal stickers, allowing it to be magnetically attached to a PC or other device.
Explorer Portable SSD: Includes a rubber case and no quick release.
Gecko Portable SSD: Includes a rubber case and a quick release design, allowing it to be easily fastened to a camera cage or SmallRig.

4. Durability
All three SSDs are IP68-rated, offering full protection against water and dust.

What is IP rating? What does IP67/IP68 mean?

IP stands for “”Ingress Protection.”” IP67-rated products are completely dustproof, waterproof, and can withstand temporary immersion in water.

IP68, on the other hand, offers even stronger water resistance. Products with IP68 certification are completely dustproof and waterproof, and can withstand prolonged immersion in water 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes.
